Disrespectful Mares damage horse owner confidence, till now

Her disrespectful mares had damaged her confidence to a level that she didn't know what to do. I received a call from Georgia last August when she told me a fellow Paso Fino owner had referred me as someone who may be able to help with her disrespectful mares that were pushing her, and her husband Bob around when handling. (paraphrasing) By the end of our phone call she had decided to have me drive to their ranch in Brenham, Texas to do a private session with their two mares. After about 8 hours of working with the 2 mares and two weanlings, we had made some real progress with all 4 horses. It was a real pleasure to spend the day with them and their horses, and ended with me loading the two mares up and bringing them to Rose Hill Ranch for further training. Georgia is very determined to overcome her confidence issue and get back to enjoying riding again, and I am glad she chose me to help. Thanks Georgia

Horse owner confidence restored

Georgia's comments: Keith Andries came to our ranch in August 2013 and put on a private lesson with two of our mares, Cupido and Sasi. My husband Bob and I learned a great deal that day for beginning ground work, such as backing, sending, and hooking up with the handler and/or owner. Keith trained Sasi for a month and Cupido for two months at his ranch in Coldspring with good results. He commented that Sasi was having a little difficulty giving up her country club membership ;-) . I’ve been implementing the techniques learned from Keith at home with my horses with great success. He spent a couple hours with me letting me practice on his mare Lisura, who was a really good ride.

In September I attended a two-day clinic at his place with my new (well she’s really 15) mare Cheri. She and I did real well and on the second day I’d gained lots more confidence. I would look forward to a good 5-day clinic with Keith this year to enhance my learning and relationships with my horses. My husband practices a lot of these techniques with the horses, and is really satisfied with the results. We also have two colts born March and April last year that we were able to imprint after birth. I’ve used a lot of the ground techniques that Keith taught us, and these little guys are so compliant and willing. They’ve learned to back, send, and were already hooked up to us. More ground work with them will be priceless.
